Reddit [PubQ] Editor request — mention in queries?

Hi, all. Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't find a similar post. I recently participated in a pitch event and received a request from an editor at a *huge* imprint (an unexpected but welcome surprise). She only wants agented submissions. Should I mention her request in my queries, and if so, should I name her directly or just the imprint? Thanks in advance!…

Reddit [PubQ] Agent is asking for a full manuscript submission at the same time as the query?

Is it a red flag for an agent to request that I submit my full manuscript at the same time I submit my query? I typically only send in full manuscripts when it is requested AFTER they read my query so I am wondering if this is something I should be wary about? The agent is on a legit agency with a few six figure sales at a big 5….

Reddit [PUBQ] when is it time to leave a fantastic agent?

Like it says above, I have a great agent who is responsive, supportive, well-connected in the industry, and regularly sells books in my genre (adult SFF). She is a dream agent in every way but one… She can't seem to sell MY books. I've died on submission twice in the space of 2 1/2 years, and while I do appreciate the fact that most of the editors she's submitted to actually re…

Reddit [PubQ] Nonfiction proposal requests, waiting, and reaching out to a previous agent?

I have had a very frustrating month. I'm about to complete a writing degree at uni, and, through some official channels, I was lucky enough to happen across a massive opportunity for someone who is essentially just starting their career. When I put my hand up for it, the editor responded, and was very eager for me to take part, gave me a deadline, some parameters to work within…

Clients: contemporaryhistoricalrom-commillennial/borderline New AdultFantasyStories that combine wonderful friendships with romance, e.g the wholesome group dynamic fromCheck Pleaseby Ngozi Ukazu, or the close friendships & assorted romances ofFences: Striking Distanceby Sara Rees Brennan.**Note: for a book to be romance, it must have a Happily Ever After or a Happily For Now.Science Fiction/FantasyI definitely lean more towards fantasy than sci-fi, but I am open to both.Fantasy/Romance — books likeA Marvelous Lightby Freya Marske, Winter’s Orbitby Evelina Maxwell, andA Strange & Stubborn Enduranceby Foz MeadowsStories that cleverly add magic to the real world, shedding light upon and capitalizing on existing inequalities and important issuesStories that ultimately believe that people are good — I don’t need anything saccharine or overly optimstic, darkness is okay and real. But I read for escapism, and I want to believe that evil does not exist for the sake of evil. (See, e.g.Game of ThronesCirce, who was bad but always understandable in acting for her children vs. Ramsay Bolton, who seemed to revel in random cruelty.)Books that feature a fully original world, or a world inspired by something other than medieval EuropeStories that subvert reader expectations by juxtaposing tropes or worlds with something seemingly incompatible, like T.J. Klune’s wholesome post-apocalypticIn the Lives of Puppets, or the emotional family story set in the sci fi/superhero world ofBig Hero 6Grounded characters & relationships; people who make me love them and want to follow them into the unknown.Among my favorite all time book characters are Royce & Hadrian from Michael Sullivan’sRiyria Revelations, Rin & Kitay from R. F. Kuang’sThe Poppy Wars, and Inda/Jeje/Taumad/Evred from Sherwood Smith’sInda.Stories that feel like BBC Merlin, but without the queer-baitingPretty much any sub-genre, but NOT grimdark, horror, and paranormal.Anti-MSWL (all categories)I tend not to connect particularly strongly to the following story elements. Stories that include them are not a definite no, but I may not be the right person for the work.shapeshifters (e.g. werewolves, dragonkind, etc), vampires, fae, Christian-aligned angels/demons.Kidnapping, cheating (by the protagonist), love triangles, or any sort of unbalanced power dynamic.Protagonists who are aligned with American police or military.Prominent focus on Christian themesPlease do not query me with books that feature the following:Magical disability cures/fixesNazi romancesSexual assault/non consensual sexual contact by the protagonistGrimdark or horrorOn page description of infestation and/or body horror. This is a strong trigger for me, and includes things like rats, bugs, and parasites (think the mind control slug fromWrath of Khan).Fun facts about me:I love D&D (and all ttrpgs), board games, cross-stitch, NYC, Philadelphia, and all things rainbow and nerdy.
