Bio:, Maggie graduated from the University of St Andrews with a joint degree in Comparative Literature and English and later completed an M.A. in Literary Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has since worked as an editor, writer, and English instructor. Maggie joined Corvisiero Literary Agency in 2021 as a literary agent apprentice and became an associate agent in 2023. Open to new clients, Maggie Sadler is a literary agent with the Corvisiero Literary Agency. She earned her joint Masters with honors in Comparative Literature and English from the historic University of St Andrews and her Masters in Literary Studies from Memorial University of Newfoundland, where her literary interests ranged from folklore retellings to nineteenth-century maritime adventure fiction, and interrogating audience reception across creative mediums. Outside of the agency space, Maggie also works as an editor and writing coach. Maggie marries these complimentary experiences with an intentional, intelligent, and growth-minded approach as a literary agent.Maggie primarily seeks literary and upmarket adult fiction with distinct character voices, lyrical prose, and propulsive plots. She loves books that unapologetically challenge and deconstruct genre, narrative, or structural conventions—books that take risks. She appreciates a careful, restrained hand with fabulist elements, one that gently asks the reader to reconsider the boundary between the real and the fantastic. Above all, Maggie craves stylish writing and wholly unique concepts that leave her feeling devastated over the palpable talent.A writer herself, Maggie draws inspiration from folklore, sweeping landscapes, and untamed femininity as she scribbles away at her debut novel. When not reading or writing, Maggie can usually be found exploring astride her rascally horse, admiring various species of moss on hikes with her partner, or taking up yet another hobby—currently, mounted archery., Maggie graduated from the University of St Andrews with a joint degree in Comparative Literature and English and later completed an M.A. in Literary Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Bio: Liz Nealon is a literary agent with and the founder of Great Dog Literary. She represents both adult and children’s books, largely non-fiction. Previously, Liz was an award-winning executive producer and media industry leader who played an integral role in shaping the indelible youth brands Sesame Street, Kidz Bop, and MTV. She served as Worldwide Creative Director for Sesame Street and traveled the world as SVP of MTV International, launching channels in Europe, Brazil, Japan, and Australia. Not surprisingly, given her many years working in television and interactive media, Liz is drawn to illustrated books, for both children and adults. Her tastes skew to non-fiction and her instincts are decidedly commercial, so she’s always looking for just the right mix of pop appeal plus intellectual content. She likes nothing more than packaging serious non-fiction in an alternative, surprising frame. Liz is more interested in thought-provoking than provocative, though she’s been known to represent some deeply edgy content. Across all the media in which she has worked, Liz Nealon has demonstrated a commitment to seeking out and amplifying diverse creative voices, starting with recruiting, mentoring, and supporting a diverse staff, and then empowering that team to source and develop breakthrough content., Liz NealonGreat Dog LiteraryPROFESSIONAL BIO: Prior to working in publishing, Liz Nealon was an award-winning executive producer and media industry leader who played an integral role in shaping the indelible youth brandsSesame Street,Kidz Bop, andMTV. Bio: Beth Miller is a literary agent with Writers House. She says: “I joined Writers House in 2007, where I’ve been ever since, working closely with senior agent Robin Rue. I’ve had the pleasure of working with many bestselling authors in various genres, as well as the joy of building my own list, working with talented authors in romance, women’s fiction, new adult, and young adult.I’m primarily looking for young adult, romance, and women’s fiction, but I’m also open to some historical fiction and romantic fantasy. A scuba diver since she was 14 and an avid lover of the sea, she went to college to study marine biology—wanting, like many other marine bio students, to work with whales and dolphins. Although a nine-week semester at sea on board a schooner and a three-month internship in Monterey, California, reinforced her love for the sea, she realized that general biology was a better choice. She then spent several years working as a DNA sequencing technician at the prestigious Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, but reading and writing called to her more and more each day. She pursued a master’s degree in literature while writing her first novel, and upon completion of the degree, turned her eye toward the publishing industry.Beth joined Writers House in 2007, where she’s been ever since, working closely with senior agent Robin Rue. She has had the pleasure of working with many bestselling authors in various genres, as well as the joy of building her own list, working with talented authors in romance, women’s fiction, new adult, and young adult. On the personal side, Beth still scuba dives whenever she can, and while she hasn’t yet hugged a whale, she did get to rub beluga whales’ tongues while she interned at the NY Aquarium. She also has a fascination for all things Scottish (including, but not limited to, men in kilts). She is also an author ofInto the Scottish Mist, A Star to Steer Her By,andUnder a Storm-Swept Skyunder the name Beth Anne Miller.Submission GuidelinesSubmissions should be emailed to bmillersubmissions@writershouse.comPlease email your query letter tobm****************@wr**********.comwith the first 10 pages pasted in to the email. *NO ATTACHMENTS ON INITIAL QUERY, PLEASE.*Vital Infobmiller@writershouse.comWebsiteAgentFiction:Romance, Women’s Fiction, Young AdultFavorite sub-genres:Contemporary Romance, Contemporary YA, Diversity, High-concept YA, Historical Fantasy, Literary YA, Magical Realism, Multicultural, Romantic Suspense, Upmarket Women’s Fiction, Upmarket YA, YA Historical Fantasy, YA fantasy/light sci-fi, YA thriller/mystery, historical romance, upmarket genre fictionI’d like the next…I’d love to find the next Kristan Higgins, Susanna Kearsley, Anne Bishop or Juliet Marillier on the adult side. Brent Taylor
Agency: Triada US Literary Agency
Bio:, After graduating from university, Brent Taylor worked for two years at The Bent Agency in New York. During this period and for a short time after, Brent also worked as an editor for a leading teen fiction website. In late 2014, Brent joined the Triada US Literary Agency and he is now actively building his own list of clients., Brent TaylorTriada USI am actively looking for new clients in the following genres and categories. As a reader, I have an appreciation for both commercial and literary fiction, and often find myself falling in love with books that possess the best elements of both: books that have commercial concepts, that will appeal to a wide audience, and are written in prose that is layered with emotion. I am the type of reader who cannot leave the bookstore without getting something from almost every single department.Picture Books:While I continue to represent picture books written by current clients, I am not currently seeking new clients who are solely picture book authors.Middle Grade:I love a wide range of middle grade, and the best way to describe what I’m looking for is to tell you about my favorite middle grade novels:Keeperby Kathi Appelt,The Best Manby Richard Peck,The Penderwicksby Jeanne Birdsall, andThe Girl Who Drank the Moonby Kelly Barnhill. Some of my middle grade clients include Newbery Honor author Rajani LaRocca;New York Times-bestselling author Sayantani DasGupta; best-selling author K.R. Alexander; and award-winning author Rex Ogle. I’m open to both literary books that are awards contenders and commercial books with bestseller potential. I love books with summertime or Halloween settings, paranormal/supernatural, horror, mysteries/thrillers, fantasy, series, or unique and inventive formats. Above all, I’m looking for middle grade that is fresh and feels like it’s never been done before.Young Adult:In young adult, I’m primarily seeking genre fiction: mysteries/thrillers, horror, speculative, fantasy. I’m open to sci-fi but it should be more “5 minutes into the future” than space opera. I’m also open to realistic fiction and romance, if it has a strong concept that I haven’t seen before. I love boarding school settings.Graphic Novels:I’m open to graphic novels for all ages, but especially MG and YA. Some of my graphic novel clients include Balazs Lorinczi, Sophie Li, Tori Sharp, Rex Ogle (and his pen name Rey Terciero), Bre Indigo, Eric Gapstur, Mike Amante, and Marker Snyder.Adult:During the first decade of my career, I primarily focused on children’s and YA books, but I am now looking to work on more adult fiction in the following genres.Romance: I love romance novels that have a concept or premise that I’ve never seen before. I love romance with speculative or paranormal elements, likeMy Roommate is a Vampireby Jenna Levine,The Ex Hexby Erin Sterling, andThe Very Secret Society of Irregular Witchesby Sangu Mandanna. I’d love to represent a romance book that feels like a Hallmark movie set in a Halloweentown world. I’m also seeking LGBTQ romance, sports romance, military romance (fun fact: I’m an army husband!), and fantasy romance.Fantasy: I would love to represent more cozy fantasy, cozy romantasy, and regular romantasy. I also love high-stakes fantasy that’s beautifully written. I love books about the fae and court politics.Thrillers: I’m looking for all types of thrillers, from upmarket/literary (think Tana French) to commercial (think Freida McFadden). Think of me for books that are comparable to S.A. Cosby, Chris Pavone, David McCloskey, Lucy Foley, and T.J. Newman.Mysteries: I’d love to represent books similar toEvery Time I Go On Vacation, Someones Diesby Catherine Mack,The Thursday Murder Clubby Richard Osman, andThe Maidby Nita Prose.Horror: I’m looking for all subgenres of horror. I love the authors Grady Hendrix, Stephen Graham Jones, and Paul Tremblay.Beach Reads: I am an Elin Hilderbrand superfan. No, seriously—I own all the ornaments and I take my “I Read Elin” tote bag on every vacation. I would just die of happiness to represent books like hers—beach reads that are so artistically excellent, smart, and have a mass appeal.LGBTQ Literary Fiction: I love a wide range of literary fiction, but I’m most passionate about and interested in representing literary fiction with an LGBTQ focus. Recent favorites includeIn Memoriamby Alice Winn;A Little Lifeby Hanya Yanagihara; On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeousby Ocean Vuong; andThe Song of Achillesby Madeline Miller.Previously self-published: I’m open to taking on clients who have been previously self-published but are looking to sell their rights to a traditional publisher.Subsidiary Rights Management:In addition to my role as an agent, I founded Triada US’s audio and foreign rights department. I am open to taking on clients (including self-published authors) specifically for subsidiary rights management. If you are querying me for potential subsidiary rights management, please include a description of the book, your biography, sales figures, and any other pertinent information in the body of the Alice Brinkman
Agency: Alice Brinkman Literary Agency
Bio: Alice Brinkman is a literary agent with and the founder of the Alice Brinkman Literary Agency. She says: “Three things that may help writers, agents, and publishers know me: I love writing. I love research, I love reading. This is who I am and why I started my literary agency. First, it is the perfect job for me. I taught elementary school and high school English for almost 23 years in the public sector. During my time teaching at the high school level, my favorite curriculum was teaching literature, poetry, and creative writing. I was also the advisor for the newspaper for ten years. I have been very fortunate to have been able to pursue and nurture my passion for writing, reading and teaching English but I knew the transition to becoming a literary agent would be a natural one for me. So, in 2019 right before the pandemic hit, I created my agency. I have not looked back. I am one agent, with one editor in New York who is a recent graduate from Columbia School of Journalism. She works remote for three magazines copy writing and editing. We read everything. My agency gets submissions every week. I have signed several clients and I am working every day to find a perfect fit for them. While it is true, I don’t have 25 years of experience, nor do I have a list of writers that I have helped obtain six figure advances. I am not embarrassed by that fact because like my writers who submit to me they are only hoping to get signed by an agent. I have to do the rest of the work to convince a publisher to read their material, no easy task by any stretch of the imagination. Rome was not built in a day right? I am hopeful and keep my nose to the grindstone. It will happen, just like it did for all those other agencies out there who started out twenty-five years ago. Like me, they may have started out from their dining room table alone with one editor too. I work from my computer wherever I am. This is all part of the dream, and I am beyond grateful to be doing it. I have been asked to include some information about myself and so I apologize for the length of this page.Another fact is thatI am a novice in this endeavor, however, I am also a highly qualified former educator. I hold a Bachelors in English Literature from the University of California, San Diego, a Masters of Arts in Education Studies from the University of California, San Diego, and a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from National University. I worked full time while at National University to pay my bills like most in class/online students. It took me three and a half years to obtain that degree. I know that there are plenty of people who question the rigor or veracity of this learning institution but it was one of the proudest moments of my life when I obtained that degree. Namely because I finished a novel I had been wanting to write even before I entered elementary school, and I finally did it. I have been asked why I have never pitched it to anyone, the truth is I have been editing and rewriting it for the last nine years. No regrets, I was too busy teaching at the time, advising students, and traveling with students across Europe. I am writing a book right now in my spare time. Ha! I don’t have spare time, I am in no hurry, it is a pleasure when I can fit it in. Let’s see what else, I am married, have one son. I travel to Europe twice a year to my little home in Italy where I can read without many interruptions. My career now, post teaching, is committed to finding publishing contracts for my clients. My website focuses on the business side of my agency. That is why I did not include my bio on my website and because I am a very private person. I enjoy spending time with my books and reading more than having a full social calendar. I am a writer, currently working writing chapters when I am not reading manuscripts. I am a dreamer, and I believe wholeheartedly in what the writers who send me their writing are doing, trying to make their dreams come true. I am trying to help them achieve that dream. My promise is that I will get their work out into the publishing universe, the rest hinges on their writing. I work very hard like the majority of agents and editors in this business, maybe more because my clients want to know I can make this happen for them. Unfortunately, as I said before, I will do all I can but the writing will be what makes the publishers want to sign them. Yes, it would be nice to be a huge success as a literary agent but everything I have ever wanted in my life has been because of determination, never giving up, and always staying hopeful and positive. That is it. I hope this long, boring bio satisfies the curiosity of anyone who wants to know who Alice Brinkman is. Most will discover that it is not that different or special from anyone else but I am definitely someone you can count on to work hard sending your writing into the hands of those that really can make dreams come true. Bio: Ernie Chiara is a literary agent with Fuse Literary. He loves nothing more than getting to work with his amazing clients on the books of their dreams. Having first joined Fuse Literary as a writer and client himself, he knows what it’s like to be in the query trenches, and his goal is to be the type of agent every writer hopes to find.Prior to becoming a literary agent, Ernie was an associate agent at Fuse, an assistant to Fuse Senior Agent Tricia Skinner, and a mentor and Communications Director for the Pitch Wars writer mentorship program. A former copywriter for a Fortune 500 client, Ernie is also the founder of TBRstack.com, a platform for authors and publishing professionals to share lists of their favorite books.Outspoken about the issues of equality, both in society as a whole and as they relate to the publishing industry, Ernie values accuracy in representation and the raising of marginalized voices. He strives to be a fierce advocate for his clients and their interests, and is passionate about bringing their stories to a broader audience. In his free time, Ernie enjoys sketching and painting, whaling away on his drum kit, binge-watching the latest fantasy series, and having fun with his three amazing kids. He specializes in Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Horror in the Adult, Young Adult, and Middle Grade categories, as well as YA Contemporary., Ernie ChiaraFuse Literary AgencyErnie Chiarais an agent atFuse Literaryspecializing adult & young adult fantasy, science fiction, and horror, as well as speculative literary fiction, upmarket speculative, BIPOC mystery/thriller/crime fiction, and young adult contemporary.Feel free to check out his full MSWL atErnieChiara.com/MSWL. And if you want to go a little more in depth on some of his more specific MSWL items, feel free to check out his ever-expanding#MSWL twitter thread.“In every genre I represent, there are some common threads that tie together what I’m looking for. Strong writing with a distinct voice is a must for me. That’s sometimes hard to pin down, but when I see it, it jumps off the page and makes me want to keep reading. I also look for complex, multi-dimensional characters who feel real to me—I want to care deeply about what happens to them. I look for immersive, deeply woven, extraordinarily original stories with propulsive plots and richly layered worldbuilding, and I tend to gravitate toward stories that blend genres in ways I may not have seen before.”I’d love to see more projects by writers from Black, Indigenous, Latine/x, Asian, AAPI, SWANA, and African communities and their far-reaching diasporas, as well as the LGBTQIA+, trans and nonbinary, and disabled and neurodiverse communities.”Adult & YA Fantasy:I enjoy all types of fantasy—whether it’s a thought provoking contemporary story with a high-concept magical hook and a keen sense of wonder, an historical fantasy with a fresh twist and prose that leans toward literary, a retelling with a unique take on a concept that hasn’t been overdone, or an epic fantasy with immersive worldbuilding and a unique cultural perspective. I prefer stories with an underpinning of social upheaval, an anti-colonialist or anti-patriarchal message, with protagonists that are harbingers of change whose stories shed light on the greater forces at work. I’d love to see unique worldbuilding with characters and settings based on cultures and histories that are traditionally underrepresented in the genre.Adult & YA Sci-Fi:In sci-fi, I love everything from contemporary speculative to cli-fi and eco-fiction to silkpunk and solarpunk, to science fantasy to africanfuturism to space opera. I gravitate towards ambitious stories with a voice that jumps off the page—stories that push the envelope with a strong character focus, creative structures, and fresh concepts that make me sit up and take notice. I enjoy well-told, genre-blurring stories with a strong cultural lens that ask hard questions about sociopolitical change, about power imbalances and privilege, and about the impact of ideas and technologies on society. I’m drawn to unconventional upmarket voices and love to see diverse perspectives and unique takes on established tropes.Adult & YA HorrorIn horror, I’d love to see imagery that keeps me up at night, stories of psychological or supernatural revenge, and an underlying cultural or social commentary. I enjoy stories with protagonists who are not only irresistible characters, but whose voices go against the grain of the societies they inhabit. Stories that range from lighthearted and fun to dark and cynical with prose that hits that literary/commercial sweet spot. I’m looking for surreal, atmospheric horror that unpacks societal and/or personal traumas, monster reimaginings from BIPOC POVs or steeped in SWANA, Asian, or other non-western mythologies. I’m open to body horror, psychological horror, gothic, historical, and/or genre-blended with fantasy or sci-fi. I’d love to be surprised by something boundary-pushing that’s unlike anything I’ve seen before.Adult Literary & Upmarket SpeculativeI’m very selective in literary and upmarket fiction. I’m looking for diverse, inclusive adult literary with stunning prose and a touch of the inexplicable, upmarket/literary speculative fiction, upmarket/literary contemporary fantasy, and authentic magical realism with roots in the Latine/x and post-colonial tradition. Bonus points for stories rooted in multi-generational secrets or those that explore folklores or cultural mythologies.Adult BIPOC Mystery/Crime/ThrillerI’m very selective in the Crime fiction space as well. For now, I’m seeking only BIPOC voices in Mystery, Thrillers, and Crime fiction.Young Adult ContemporaryI’m looking for YA Contemporary with fully-realized characters, strong emotional beats, and clear stakes. I lean toward perspectives outside my own, and prefer stories that ask tough questions but don’t shy away from finding the humor amid the difficulties of teenage life.Submission GuidelinesTo query Ernie, please submit your query letter and the first twenty pages of your completed manuscript through the online form atQueryManager.com/ErnieChiara.Guidelines & DetailsVital Infoernie@fuseliterary.com@erniechiaraFacebookWebsiteAgentFiction:BIPOC Crime Fiction, BIPOC Mystery, BIPOC Thriller, Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction, Speculative, Speculative Literary, Upmarket Speculative, Young AdultFavorite sub-genres:AAPI Fantasy, AAPI Horror, AAPI Sci-Fi, Adult Horror, African Fantasy, African Sci-Fi, Africanfuturism, Asian Fantasy, Asian Horror, Asian Sci-Fi, BIPOC, BIPOC Fantasy, BIPOC Horror, BIPOC Mystery, BIPOC Sci-Fi, BVM, Cli-Fi, Climate Fiction, Contemporary Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, High Fantasy, Historical Fantasy, Historical Fantasy; Fantasy Grounded In Reality, LGBTQ+ Fantasy, LGBTQ+ Sci-Fi, Latinx Fantasy, Latinx Horror, Latinx Sci-Fi, Low Fantasy, Magical Realism, SWANA Fantasy, SWANA Horror, SWANA Sci-Fi, Space Opera, Speculative Fiction, Urban Fantasy, YA Contemporary, YA Fantasy, YA horror, afrofuturism, romantasyI’d like the next……query I receive to be a great match!ErnieChiara.com/querying, Before joining Fuse Literary, Ernie was Communications Director for Pitch Wars, a writer mentorship program, where he was a Mentor in the Adult category. She joined the agency in 2007 and now continues to manager her impressive client list. In addition to her role with the agency, Jennifer founded the “Not Your Mother’s Book Club”, a book club for young adult fiction readers. Jennifer currently hosts a podcast about Children’s Publishing, “Literaticast”. Open to new clients, Jennifer Laughran is a literary agent with the Andrea Brown Literary Agency. Jennifer comes from a theatrical background, and began her career in agenting after working as a long-time children’s bookseller and buyer. She joined the Andrea Brown Literary Agency in 2007. Jenn loves quirky, warm illustration, and projects for all ages that have illustrated elements. Always on the lookout for sparkling YA and middle grade fiction with unusual and unforgettable characters and vivid settings, she is drawn to nearly all kinds of books, whether realistic comedies or richly imagined magical adventures. However, the common thread in her favorite stories is an offbeat world-view. Jennifer loves funny books, thrilling books, romantic books, books that make her cry, and all-around un-put-downable books … and her true favorites are all of the above. She spends most of her free time … well, reading, what else?!, Prior to joining the Andrea Brown Literary Agency, Jennifer worked as a children’s bookseller and buyer. She joined the agency in 2007 and now continues to manager her impressive client list., In addition to her role with the agency, Jennifer founded the “Not Your Mother’s Book Club”, a book club for young adult fiction readers., Jennifer LaughranAndrea Brown Literary AgencyI’m looking for sparkling middle grade and young adult fiction. I’m also open to graphic novels and picture books, particularly by author-illustrators. Great writing a must, high concept a plus. Authors from marginalized communities are encouraged to query. Diverse narratives of all kinds welcome. For contemp, I like very voicey characters that I will laugh and cry with, and a hooky plot doesn’t hurt. I really want stories and perspectives that I may not have read before. I prefer upbeat to dismal – put the characters through hell if you must, but I hope they come out the other side stronger for it! I have a soft spot for all books featuring all shades of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. And did I mention UPBEAT? I love joyful, funny books. (I’m not sayingeverythingabout the book has to be joyful and funny! But… ifnothingabout it is, it might not be for me.)For fantasy, my preference is “cute magic” and adventure involving human/humanoid POV characters we can relate to, with maybe some humor and romance, and recognizable earth or earth-like settings. I am probably not the best agent for extreme high fantasy. (I like GRACELING and Tamora Pierce… not so much GoT or LoTR). For SF, again, I prefer stories that are rooted in some version of our world. For historical, well, I’m probably not the best person for historical unless it is pre-1929 and there’s something flashy about it. (Tudor, Regency, Victorian, WW1 and 1920’s or similar are all fine.) I have pretty much zero interest in the 1950’s-1990’s as a historical era. And I have a difficult time reading about the Holocaust. Unless the book is about punching Nazis! #PunchNazisMy personal website, with lots more of the books and clients I rep:http://www.jenniferlaughran.com/Fun facts about me:I went to boarding school, and theatre school for both high school and college – I’m a sucker for stories set in and around theatres and boarding schools!Though I am from California, my family hails from Louisiana and Mississippi, and I lived in New Orleans for a long time. I’m interested in stories about New Orleans and the south – particularly the modern South.I have worked in bookstores since I was 12, but I’ve also had a variety of jobs ranging in oddness, including: a) Waitress at a mafia restaurant where all of the “upper management” was arrested because of an anti-racketeering FBI sting in the middle of dinner service! b) Writer of love notes between Turkish gigolos and the foreign women they were wooing! c) professional audience seat filler for very dumb daytime TV talk shows (YES, you can get paid for that)! d) Puppeteer on stilts! . . . and THAT is just scratching the surface.Submission GuidelinesSubmissions should be emailed to http://QueryMe.Online/JenniferLaughranPlease use the form to query me: http://QueryMe.Online/JenniferLaughranChoose ONE agent from ABLA to query. Is that possible? No? Then surprise me.My favorites include…I don’t need to see these plots in my inbox, but my favorites might help you get a sense of my taste.Theatre:HAMILTON! HAMILTON! HAMILTON! Also Chorus Line. Evita. In the Heights. Everything Sondheim.TV:Killing Eve. Fleabag. BBC period dramas. Empire. Younger. Blackish. Fresh off the Boat. Modern Family. Gilmore Girls. Veronica Mars. West Wing. Scandal. UnReal. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. RuPaul’s Drag Race. Top Chef. Project Runway. Great British Baking Show. (What can I say, I like fashion and food and drag queens!)TV NOTS:Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad and The Wire are not for me. I’m not a fan of brutal violence, incest, beheadings and the like. I tend not to like grimy men running around the wilderness with swords, or grimy men running around cities with guns.Movies:The Apartment, and pretty much any Billy Wilder movie really. I tend to like comedies with strong central female characters and/or strong ensembles, and documentaries about anything cultural, from Art Heists to Yiddish Language. I also tend to like movies about space (like the Martian or Apollo 13!) and movies about baseball (like Bull Durham or League of their Own!). Weirdly, though I don’t like violence per se (see above in TV NOTS), I do have a soft spot for movies about the Mafia. Maybe it’s because of Michael Corleone (rowr!), or maybe I just need my violence tempered with glamour.MOVIE NOTS:I just watched Star Wars for the first time this year. I didn’t like it. (Sorry.) I don’t really like LOTR or things of that ilk. I mean I have WATCHED them all, but it is not fun for me. (Again: Sorry.)Books:Oh man. This is hard. Well aside from my own books, obviously, recent YA books I’ve loved have been: WITH THE FIRE ON HIGH by Elizabeth Acevedo. DUMPLIN’ by Julie Murphy. WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI by Sandhya Menon. SIMON VS THE HOMO-SAPIENS AGENDA by Becky Albertalli. SIX OF CROWS by Leigh Bardugo. For MG — SHADOWS OF SHERWOOD by Kekla Magoon. THE THING ABOUT JELLYFISH by Ali Benjamin. FRONT DESK by Kelly Yang. THE LAST-LAST DAY OF SUMMER by Lamar Giles.I don’t rep adult books, but I do read them — on the adult books side, I really liked ALL THE BIRDS IN THE SKY by Charlie Jane Anders — magical, but firmly rooted in the real world. And I adored RED, WHITE, AND ROYAL BLUE by Casey McQuiston — Utterly sweet and delightful, SO funny it made me laugh aloud, about the President’s son who falls in love with the Prince of Wales. Another recent favorite was THE BRIDE TEST by Helen Hoang; it’s very romantic, and I loved that the main characters are different from a lot of “standard issue” romances. I also read a lot of narrative non-fiction, and I love banter-filled regency romances starring strong ladies.I have a love-hate relationship with cults and sociopaths… aka, I am SCARED TO DEATH of cults and sociopaths, but also seem to always be drawn to stories about them. However I rep a significant cult book in THE SACRED LIES OF MINNOW BLY, so it would have to be something quite different from that.BOOK NOTS:Again, I’m afraid LOTR and GoT are not for me in the least. I like magic, but not that kind of high fantasy. Also, extremely bleak books are not for me.
